Dutch Regulator Cracks Down on Prohibited Betting Markets

The Dutch Gambling Authority has recently taken action against several online sports betting operators for offering prohibited betting markets. These operators were found to be allowing bets on markets like Most Valuable Player prizes, which are against regulations. The KSA has emphasized the importance of compliance among license holders, reiterating that they are responsible for the legality of their offerings.

Dutch Regulator Takes Action Against Prohibited Betting Markets

The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has recently addressed several online sports betting operators for offering markets that are not permitted under current regulations. Although the KSA did not disclose the names of the operators involved, it highlighted that these companies were allowing bets on markets such as the Most Valuable Player prize.

The KSA reminded these operators that they are restricted to offering markets only on events occurring during a sports match or on the final outcomes of fixtures. Following this notification, the companies in question promptly removed the prohibited markets from their platforms.

KSA Maintains Vigilance Over Betting Markets

This isn't the first time the KSA has raised concerns about illegal betting offerings. Recently, it has called out prominent operators like bet365 and One Casino for similar issues. In a statement issued in December 2024, the KSA pointed out unnamed operators that were permitting bets on matches involving participants under the age of 21.

Responsibility Lies with Licence Holders

The KSA has stressed that licence holders bear personal responsibility for the gaming offerings they provide, even when utilizing external platforms or sportsbook providers. The regulatory body expects these operators to maintain vigilant oversight of their offerings and to implement necessary measures to prevent the availability of unauthorized bets.

If prohibited bets are found on their platforms, immediate corrective action must be taken. The KSA has committed to ongoing supervision of licence holders to ensure compliance with gambling regulations.

Jacks Under Scrutiny for Advertising Violations

In a related matter, the KSA recently addressed JOI Gaming's brand Jacks regarding a violation of the ban on untargeted gambling advertising. The issue arose when Jacks' logo was displayed on the website of the Professional Darts Corporation, an organization that frequently hosts events in the Netherlands.

While the KSA noted that displaying the logo itself does not constitute a violation, the link to Jacks’ online gambling platform was deemed problematic. This linkage was interpreted as advertising for online gambling on a publicly accessible website.

Following the KSA's intervention, Jacks promptly removed the link to its online gambling offerings. The KSA reiterated that licence holders must comply with laws and regulations governing gambling advertising, and it monitors compliance to ensure a secure and fair gambling environment.
