BetGuard Launches to Enhance Responsible Gaming in Ontario
BetGuard, an innovative tool aimed at individuals aged 19 and older, has officially launched in Ontario, Canada. This platform allows users to voluntarily opt out of all regulated online gaming sites via a single online portal. By using BetGuard.ca, players can effectively prevent access to their existing accounts, stop the creation of new accounts, and cease receiving marketing communications from any regulated iGaming platform in the province.
This initiative aligns with the provincial government's commitment to implementing strong safeguards for player protection. According to iGaming Ontario, the introduction of BetGuard is a significant step toward promoting responsible gaming practices.
Statement:Joseph Hillier, president and CEO of iGaming Ontario, emphasized that the core principle of BetGuard is simplicity: it provides players with the option to take a break from the entire regulated iGaming market. He stated that player choice is essential for the market's sustainability, which includes the ability to opt out.
Collaboration has been key in the development of BetGuard. iGaming Ontario has partnered with government officials, leading experts in responsible gaming, and industry operators to create this tool specifically for the province's regulated iGaming environment.
Ontario's iGaming market has proven lucrative, generating CA$262 million in revenue for the fiscal year 2024-25. Importantly, this revenue is being reinvested back into the province to support various initiatives. Since 2018, the Government of Ontario has allocated over $421 million towards public education and awareness programs related to gambling, responsible gaming support, and research initiatives.
