As reported by iGaming Ontario, March 2026 set a remarkable milestone for the province's online gambling sector, with the total handle soaring to CAD$9.6 billion. This impressive figure reflects a 20.6% increase compared to the same month last year and a 10% rise from February 2026.
Revenue Growth Highlights
Gross gaming revenue also saw positive trends, climbing to CAD$387 million, which is a 13% increase from the previous month. Interestingly, the number of active player accounts dipped by 5% to 1.2 million, suggesting that while fewer players were engaging, those who did were betting more.
Casino and Sports Betting Contributions
Breaking down the numbers further, the casino segment dominated the market, accounting for a staggering 87% of the total handle. This translates to CAD$8.3 billion in March alone, setting another record since the market's inception in April 2022.
Sports betting, while a smaller segment, still made a significant impact, contributing 11% to the overall handle with CAD$1.1 billion, reflecting a 14% increase month-over-month. Meanwhile, the poker segment, which typically represents a smaller share, saw a notable 36% increase in handle, reaching CAD$183 million, making up 2% of the total.
Note:
The growth in these segments indicates a robust and evolving iGaming landscape in Ontario, with players showing a willingness to engage more despite fluctuations in account numbers.
